Merck wants to become an export pole


Merck Sharp & Dohme, Brazilian subsidiary of the American multinational Merck & Co. Inc, enters in the competition to become the company’s export platform and then attend Mercosul costumers. “Before the end of this year, we will have the definition if we will be chosen to work to the international sector”, reveals João Sanches, corporative communication CEO of the company. Among the "competitors" of Merck Sharp & Dohme – listed among five best laboratories of Brazil, according to DCI Research with 200 doctors-, are the United States, Europe, Singapore, Ireland and Mexico.

In the evaluation of the executive, the advantage of Brazil to get the investment of the head office is the quality of human capital found in the Country, in addition to the modernized manufacturing infrastructure. “We have a great number of doctors and postgraduates working in the company, which streamlines the research process”, he affirms. Only the Merck Sharp & Dohme Medical Department counts with 100 professionals. “This supports us for carrying out the required studies”.

In addition to its feasibility studies in order to make the Brazilian unit the exporting pole of Merck, the company has an agenda of innovation and competitiveness where it takes part in a survey of biotechnological parks in Brazil.
